A Feast for Odin: The Norwegians is an expansion for the board game A Feast for Odin.
It brings a large number of new additions that expand strategic possibilities:
– Updated Action Board
The biggest novelty in the expansion is an action board made up of three double‑sided sections that can be flipped depending on the number of players. It adds new action paths and increases the likelihood of players blocking each other.
The new board includes opportunities such as:
- butchering
- elk hunting
- fishing
- thievery
along with changes to some existing actions.
Playing an animal‑focused strategy is now easier, since you can gain two identical animals in a single action. A new fifth action column has also been added, allowing more advanced actions to be taken with just one Viking.
A completely new one‑Viking action is “small emigration” using a whaling boat: it covers one space on the feast table (instead of two), provides 7 points, and does not require silver.
Additionally, you may send two Vikings to this column to play an occupation card along with the action.
– New Puzzle TilesTwo new tile shapes have been added:
- 2×5 rectangle (horse/pregnant mare/leather/vadmal)
- 5‑space “U” shape (herbs/pig/antlers/tools)
Their red versions introduce two new animals:
- horse (worth 6 points)
- pig (worth 1 point and breeds every round)
The expansion also includes five new grey special tiles (pan, chainmail shirt, anvil, etc.), most of which can be forged using ore. A third goods box has also been added for storing the new tiles.
– Four New Exploration BoardsThe front sides depict islands:
- Isle of Man
- Isle of Skye
- Islay
- Outer Hebrides
The reverse sides show Irish coastal Viking settlements:
- Waterford
- Wexford
- Cork
- Limerick
Norwegian Vikings stayed there during winter, traded, and settled nearby.
Updated versions of the four exploration boards from the base game are also included, with improved iconography and adjusted victory points.
– New BuildingsEach player receives one of six double‑sided artisan sheds. Whenever a player could build a shed, they may instead build one side of their artisan shed.
Like the stone house and longhouse, artisan sheds offer new spaces for orange and red tiles, awarding goods, silver, and points. Many require placing specific tiles on precise spaces.
This gives every player an additional unique development path — similar to occupation cards.
– Victory Point Tokens (VP tokens)A new option allows a player to discard an occupation card instead of playing it, gaining a VP token worth 4, 3, or 2 points at the end of the game.
This introduces a small competitive element, as the number of 4‑VP and 3‑VP tokens is limited.
The expansion also includes:
- an additional mountain strip,
- more two‑silver coins,
- more bean/mead and oil/runestone tiles.
A new almanac is included as well, explaining the expansion’s new game elements and their connection to Viking history.
