A Touch of Evil is a gothic adventure horror game set at the beginning of the 19th century in the remote village of Shadowbrook, where gruesome murders occur at night and a veil of darkness hangs over the land. The players are hunters of supernatural creatures who explore the village, gather clues, and attempt to uncover and defeat a terrifying supernatural threat – one of four Great Villains, each possessing unique powers and twisted minions.

The theme is strongly infused with classic gothic horror elements – superstition, witchcraft, werewolves, vampiric creatures – all presented in a cinematic, atmospheric style, emphasized through illustrations, mood, and storytelling.

Players travel across the map of Shadowbrook and its surroundings, encounter random events, uncover secrets, and strengthen their hero. Each of the 8 heroes has unique abilities. During the game, a hero can acquire new items, allies, and skills that increase the chances of success in the final showdown. The game features 4 main villains, each with its own rules, minions, and modifications that significantly influence the course of the game.

The game offers several modes of play:

• competitive: who will be the first to defeat the villain,
• cooperative: players join forces against an empowered villain,
• team play: teams compete against each other,
• solo play: included in the revised edition.

At the climax of the game, a final showdown takes place in which players confront the villain in their lair – a tense, thematic conclusion that reflects everything the players have built up throughout the game.
