Barcelona is a medium-weight Euro board game for 1–4 players, designed by Dani Garcia. The game is set in the historical context of Barcelona’s expansion in the 19th century, particularly focusing on the Eixample urban development project designed by Ildefons Cerdà, a pioneer of modern urban planning.

In the game, you take on the role of a city planner helping Barcelona expand beyond its old boundaries. Your task is to construct residential buildings, streets, tram lines, and public services, while also embracing the cultural rise of the Modernisme movement, which shaped the architecture of the era.

The action selection is based on placing citizen tokens at intersections within the city grid. Each placement triggers two actions depending on the location. The tram system allows you to move a tram through the city, activating additional bonuses and scoring points when passengers stop on your streets. Building construction is central to scoring, with players developing structures at intersections using citizen tokens as part of the cost. Three intermediate scoring phases and a final scoring round support strategic planning and tactical adaptation.

Barcelona is ideal for fans of city-building, historical themes, and Euro games that offer strategic depth without excessive complexity. 🏗️🚋🌆
