In the game Black Hole Buccaneers, players become space pirates venturing into the dangerous depths of space to collect valuable scraps from abandoned corners of the galaxy – from ancient artifacts to robot parts and even toys. All of this while risking being sucked into a black hole if they become too greedy.
It’s a fun mix of science fiction and pirate themes, where the goal is to gather as much valuable loot as possible and escape the gravitational pull of the black hole in time.
The game is played over three rounds, each featuring a different black hole with its own gravity limit. Players choose between cards representing various items – each with a value (for points) and a weight (which affects risk).
Types of cards:
- Spaceships: High value, high weight.
- Toys: Balanced, but the player with the most toys receives a penalty card.
- Time machine parts: More different parts = more points, less weight.
- Shifters: Their weight adjusts to match the last played shifter.
- Robots: Powerful, but they can be swapped with opponents.
- Artifacts and relics: Have special effects.
Game phases:
- Card selection – players choose and play a card.
- Effect activation – card effects are resolved.
- Card passing – remaining cards are passed on.
At the end of each round, it is checked whether a player has exceeded the gravity limit. If not, they score points for collected items. After three rounds, the player with the most points wins.
If you enjoy a pirate theme set in space, where you constantly balance greed and survival, Black Hole Buccaneers is a great choice. 🪐💰
