Carcassonne: 20th Anniversary Edition is a special anniversary edition of one of the most popular board games of all time. Players work together to create the landscape of medieval southern France, building cities, roads, monasteries, and fields while competing to score the most points.
The game is set in the medieval countryside surrounding the French city of Carcassonne. As the game progresses, a map filled with fortified cities, winding roads, monasteries, and fertile fields gradually unfolds before the players. Each new tile expands the landscape and creates the feeling of building a vibrant medieval world.
Carcassonne is based on tile placement. On their turn, a player draws a landscape tile and connects it to the existing map so that roads connect to roads, cities to cities, and other terrain features match appropriately. After placing a tile, the player may choose to place one of their followers (meeples) on a feature. A meeple can become a knight in a city, a robber on a road, a monk in a monastery, or a farmer in a field. When a feature is completed, the player scores points for it and retrieves their meeple for future use. Success depends on managing a limited number of meeples wisely and deciding when to expand your own projects and when to interfere with your opponents' plans.
In addition to the base game, this anniversary edition includes the The River and The Abbot mini-expansions, as well as a new 15-tile anniversary mini-expansion. The edition also features enhanced artwork, UV printing, and numerous hidden details and easter eggs within the illustrations.
Carcassonne: 20th Anniversary Edition is an excellent choice for players who enjoy creating medieval landscapes, thoughtful tile placement, and elegant strategy that remains engaging even after many plays. 🏰
