Coffee Roaster: 2nd Edition is a thematic solo board game in which you take on the role of a master coffee roaster. Your task is to create the perfect roast from different varieties of coffee beans, carefully monitoring the roast level, removing undesirable particles, and preserving the best aromas of each bean type. The game does an excellent job of recreating the feel of the real coffee-roasting process.
The game features 22 different coffee bean varieties, each with its own characteristics and unique flavor effects, such as aroma, acidity, and body. The objective is not only to reach the target roast level but also to preserve the distinctive character of each variety.
The main mechanism is bag-building, similar to deck-building, except that instead of managing cards, you manage tokens in a bag.
During the game:
- you choose a coffee variety and place its corresponding tokens into the bag,
- each round, you randomly draw tokens representing beans during the roasting process,
- you increase their roast level,
- you remove smoke, burnt beans, and other unwanted elements,
- you use special flavor effects to gain better control over the bag’s contents,
- finally, you perform a Cup Test, where you evaluate the quality of the coffee and determine your score.
A game lasts approximately 10 to 30 minutes and is designed for 1 player, making it an excellent choice for fans of solo gaming.
