Crown of Ash is a thematically rich and strategic board game for 1–4 players that combines worker placement and area control mechanics. Players take on the role of vengeful necromancers striving to rebuild and conquer a fallen kingdom with the help of loyal servants and an army of the undead.

After a century of dreamless slumber, the lords awaken from the darkness, gifted with the power of necromancy. Now they seek power – and the crown. As necromancers, players gather alchemical resources, raise undead warriors, construct buildings, and battle for control of the realm. The goal is to earn the most influence points and claim the Crown of Ash.

Players send their servants to various action spaces to collect resources, build, fight, or refresh cards. They upgrade regions for better resource output and more points. With gathered resources, they summon different undead fighters. These warriors are used to attack structures controlled by other players. Combat is resolved using a combination of fighters and battle cards, which grant rewards regardless of the outcome – reducing the feeling of direct aggression. Fate cards provide bonus points at the end of the game based on collected resources.
