Cryptic Killers: Murder of an MVP is a detective-style “cold case file” game that places players in the role of investigators solving the mysterious death of a sports superstar.
The story revolves around famous basketball player Benjamin “Big Mack” Mackenzie, who collapses and dies live on television during a crucial game in 2014. The official cause of death is a heart attack, but a journalist begins to suspect that something far more suspicious is hidden beneath the surface.
The game is based on analyzing evidence and logical deduction. Inside the box, there are as many as 29 different pieces of evidence (reports, statements, photographs, articles, maps, etc.) that players must carefully examine. In addition to physical evidence, there is also an online system (email and phone emulator) where players search for further information. The gameplay revolves around:
- connecting pieces of evidence
- identifying motives
- checking alibis
- eliminating suspects
It is a cooperative experience (or playable solo) without traditional turns—players freely explore the case, discuss findings, and build theories together.
Murder of an MVP is a tense detective game that combines a sports narrative with a realistic criminal investigation to create a deeply engaging analytical experience 🏀
