Deal With The Devil is a unique board game that combines a fantasy medieval theme, hidden roles, city-building, and social deduction into a complex euro-style experience designed for exactly four players. The game was created by Matúš Kotry.
The setting takes place in a medieval world where each player rules their own kingdom—but beneath the surface lies a dark truth: one player is the Devil, one is a Cultist, and the remaining two are Mortals. The Devil seeks to collect as many soul fragments as possible, the Cultist has already partially sold their soul, and the Mortals strive to preserve their innocence. All of this unfolds under the watchful eye of the Inquisition, which punishes those who cannot prove they still possess their souls.
The game is played over five rounds, each consisting of several phases:
- Production and Building: Players gather resources and construct buildings that provide points and special abilities.
- Deal Phase: Secret trading takes place using an app and special boxes with QR codes. The Devil offers resources in exchange for soul fragments, the Cultist may sell parts of their soul, and Mortals must decide whether to give in to temptation.
- Inquisition: In rounds 3 and 5, the number of soul fragments collected by the Devil is revealed. Players must defend themselves against inquisitors using soul fragments or indulgences.
- Witch Hunt: Players can accuse others of lacking a complete soul, triggering additional consequences.
Additionally, the game features mechanics such as debt and interest, a reputation track, hidden roles, deduction, and asymmetric objectives.
Deal With The Devil presents players with moral dilemmas and strategic challenges—will you preserve your soul, or sell it for power? 🕯️
