Detective is a modern crime investigation board game in which players step into the shoes of investigators from the special Antares unit. You solve five interconnected cases that reveal a larger, metahistorical storyline interwoven with real events, locations, and historical references. The game intentionally breaks the fourth wall by requiring the use of the Antares online database and checking information on the internet, creating an exceptionally realistic experience of modern detective work.
All players act as a single team, sharing clues, resources, and time while making decisions together. Each player has their own character with a unique ability that supports the group. Each case is limited by a set number of actions (time units). You must decide which leads to pursue and which to leave behind — you will never see the entire “deck of cards,” so you must form the best possible theory from the available pieces of the story.
Players use:
- the Antares online database with suspects, evidence, interrogations, and more,
- the internet, to verify real events, locations, or people whenever the game suggests it.
Through this, Detective seamlessly blends a classic board‑gaming experience with the real world.
Each case contains a set of clue cards. Some reveal new discoveries, while others leave you empty‑handed. The cards are not shuffled or examined in advance — they are revealed only when instructed. The cases form a single overarching narrative. Clues from the first case may become crucial only in the fourth or fifth one. Note‑taking, linking people, locations, and motives is essential.
