Dungeons & Dragons: Temple of Elemental Evil Board Game is a cooperative board game set in the popular Forgotten Realms universe and inspired by the Elemental Evil campaign storyline. It is part of the D&D Adventure System series and was developed by Wizards of the Coast in collaboration with WizKids.
The game takes place in the dark dungeons beneath the Temple of Elemental Evil, where players take on the roles of heroic adventurers, such as fighters, wizards, and clerics. Together, they explore dangerous corridors, battle monsters, and search for valuable treasures. Their ultimate goal is to defeat the ancient evil lurking within the Temple of Elemental Evil, a powerful threat that endangers the world.
Designed for 1–5 players, the game is fully cooperative, with all participants working together against the game itself. It features a modular board that is gradually revealed as players explore and place new dungeon tiles. Players use a 20-sided die (d20) for attacks, defense, and special abilities. As heroes gain experience, they can improve their skills and become more powerful. Each adventure has a different objective, such as recovering a powerful artifact or defeating a formidable boss. Exploring new tiles can also trigger random events or cause monsters to appear.
The game is compatible with other D&D Adventure System titles, such as Castle Ravenloft and The Legend of Drizzt, allowing players to combine components and expand their adventures. It also includes solo play support, a relatively uncommon feature among larger adventure board games.
