Eldritch Horror is a cooperative adventure game set in the world of H. P. Lovecraft, where players take on the roles of investigators traveling across the globe to prevent the awakening of ancient cosmic horrors — the so‑called Ancient Ones. The game is filled with tension, mystery, and a constant sense of impending doom slowly creeping over humanity.
The game unfolds over several phases, in which players:
- Perform actions (moving, researching, acquiring equipment),
- Experience encounters at various locations around the world (e.g., London, Arkham, Tokyo),
- Face mythological events during the Mythos Phase, which pushes the story forward.
Each playthrough features one of the Ancient Ones, who determines the special rules, goals, and events of that game. Players must solve three mysteries before the Ancient One awakens and destroys the world. The mechanics involve dice rolling, resource management (health, sanity, items), as well as teamwork and strategic planning.
