Fjords is a strategic board game that takes players into the beautiful, wild landscape of Norwegian fjords, where they, as leaders of Viking clans, explore and claim new territories.
The atmosphere of the game is calm, yet strategically tense: exploring the landscape and then competing for territory creates a sense of gradual discovery and conquest of the northern wilderness.
Fjords is based on two key mechanics:
- tile placement
- area control
The game is divided into two phases:
1. Exploration Phase
Players place hexagonal tiles and collectively create a map of the fjords.
Tiles must correctly connect terrain (sea, mountains, plains).
At the same time, players place their starting points (longhouses), which will be crucial in the next phase.
2. Conquest Phase
Players begin expanding their influence from their houses by placing Vikings.
They aim to claim as much connected territory as possible.
Blocking opponents and making use of the geography created in the first phase is key.
The winner is the player who controls the most territory at the end of the game.
