The story takes place in the remote settlement of Frosthaven, struggling to survive in the icy wilderness north of the city of White Oak. Players take on the roles of mercenaries facing attacks from the Algox tribes, mysterious aquatic Lurkers, and roaming mechanical constructs. In addition to external threats, players must help the settlement grow, endure harsh winters, and uncover the dark secrets of this world.
Combat unfolds on a hex-based grid, where players choose two cards each turn, each offering a top and a bottom ability. This system demands precise planning and tight teamwork, as a single wrong decision can lead to defeat.
Between scenarios, players work together to develop the Frosthaven settlement. They construct new buildings, craft items, and uncover mysteries. This phase adds a strategic layer and deepens the sense of community among players.
