Gloom: Unhappy Homes is an expansion for the game Gloom.
The Gloom: Unhappy Homes expansion adds the option to play with one additional player and includes 55 new cards.
In Gloom, you try to inflict as many tragic misfortunes as possible on your eccentric family of oddballs before helping them move on to their well‑deserved rest — death. Simply shuffle the 55 transparent cards from this expansion into your copy of the base game to add new morbid Modifiers, Events, and Untimely Deaths, as well as a new family — the artists of Le Canard Noir, whose creative endeavors always end in disaster.
When art lets you down, the Black Duck is always there. This run‑down café is home to a colorful gathering of washed‑up bohemians. Here, the painter Rosseau buys drinks for neurotic models and impoverished poets, while across the room a troubled actress and a sickly courtesan comfort each other.
The expansion also includes five Residences with a light blue background behind the central illustration. At the start of the game, each is placed next to its corresponding family. New cards called Mysteries, which have a dark blue effect bar at the bottom, are also shuffled into the deck before the game begins. A Mystery is the only card that can be played on a Residence (and only on a Residence), and a player may place it on any Residence as one of their two actions. It grants the controlling player a special effect and Pathos points that count toward their final Family Value. A Mystery remains in play even if its play requirements are no longer met. You may discard a Mystery from your hand as a free action.
