Horrified: American Monsters is a standalone cooperative game set in the fictional American town of Cross Creek, which is threatened by legendary creatures from American folklore. Instead of the classic Universal monsters, players face off against Bigfoot, the Mothman, the Jersey Devil, the Chupacabra, the Banshee of the Badlands, and the Ozark Howler.
The game is designed in the style of the 1950s and 1960s, with an aesthetic inspired by vintage B-movies and drive-in horror films. Each monster has a unique method of defeat that thematically reflects its legend—for example, to stop the Chupacabra, players must collect goats before the creature feeds on them, while the Jersey Devil hides among the townsfolk and must be exposed.
Players work together to save the town from the monsters. You can choose to face 2–4 monsters, which directly affects the difficulty of the game. Each challenge requires a different approach, from solving puzzles to collecting specific items. Players move through locations around town, gather items, rescue villagers, and avoid monster attacks. Each player has a distinct role with a unique special ability, encouraging teamwork and coordinated strategy.
If you’re drawn to American cryptids, retro horror aesthetics, and cooperative gameplay, Horrified: American Monsters is an excellent choice for a themed game night with family or friends. 👣🌲🌕
