Lacrimosa is a medium-weight Euro game for 1–4 players that combines historical themes, musical artistry, and strategic resource management.
The game takes place after the death of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with players assuming the roles of his patrons. Their goal is to help his widow, Constanze, complete his final masterpiece, the Requiem, specifically its last movement, Lacrimosa. At the same time, players relive memories of their shared experiences with Mozart, shaping their place in history and in Constanze's recollections.
Each card is divided into two sections: the upper half provides an immediate action, while the lower half adds resources to a player's future capabilities. Every turn, players choose two cards, using one for its action and the other for its long-term benefits. Memory cards can be upgraded, unlocking stronger actions in later rounds.
Players may commission new works (Opus cards), perform them to earn money, or sell them for victory points. Mozart's meeple travels across European cities, granting bonuses and scoring opportunities. Players also contribute to the completion of five musical movements by selecting instruments and composers, creating an engaging area control element.
