Letters from Whitechapel is a tense detective board game set in Victorian London in 1888, during the infamous Jack the Ripper murders. One player takes on the role of Jack, who must commit four murders and safely return to his hideout each time. The other players are detectives trying to track his movements, gather clues, and catch him before he strikes again.

The game is based on historical events but presents them through a dramatic cat‑and‑mouse experience filled with bluffing, logical deduction, and psychological tension.

It is a hidden‑movement and deduction game in which Jack moves across a numbered map of Whitechapel while the detectives search for clues and try to anticipate his path.

Jack secretly records his route on a hidden movement sheet, which must remain concealed from the detectives. Detectives can search adjacent spaces for traces of Jack’s movement. If a detective guesses Jack’s exact current location, the game ends immediately — Jack has been caught. Jack has a limited number of special actions (e.g., taking a carriage ride, moving through dark alleys) that help him escape pursuit.

The game takes place over four “nights,” each involving a new murder and escape. If Jack successfully escapes each night, he wins. If the detectives catch him, they win instead.

The feeling of chase and escape is incredibly intense, especially for the player controlling Jack. If you enjoy games where every step matters, every decision is tense, and every move could mean victory or defeat, Letters from Whitechapel is a perfect addition to your collection. 🔍
