Lords of Waterdeep is a strategic board game with a worker placement mechanic, set in the fantasy city of Waterdeep, part of the Dungeons & Dragons universe. Players take on the roles of secretive Lords who pull the strings behind the scenes, competing for dominance by completing quests, constructing buildings, and using intrigue.
Each player is a hidden Lord with specific preferences for certain types of quests. At the end of the game, Lords are revealed, and bonus points are awarded based on their objectives.
Players take turns placing their agents on various locations on the board to recruit adventurers (fighters, wizards, rogues, clerics), gain gold, acquire new quests, or perform special actions. Completing quests is the main source of points. Each quest requires a specific combination of resources (adventurers and gold) and grants rewards. Players can also build new locations that everyone can use, but the owner gains extra benefits. Intrigue cards allow one-time actions that can help the player or hinder opponents. Each player’s secret Lord card determines which quests will earn them additional points at the end of the game.
The game is easy to learn yet offers plenty of depth—perfect for players who want to explore the worker placement mechanic. 🧙♂️
