Marvel Champions: The Card Game is a cooperative card game that places players in the roles of iconic superheroes from the Marvel Universe. Together, they must stop the sinister plans of villains such as Rhino, Klaw, or Ultron and save the world from destruction.
Each player takes on the role of a well-known Marvel hero, such as Iron Man, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, or She-Hulk. Every hero has a unique set of cards that reflects their abilities and personality. The game also features villains with their own schemes that the heroes must overcome. Villains come with multiple difficulty stages, allowing players to adjust the challenge to their preferences.
Each hero has two forms – hero and alter ego. Switching between them is a key strategic element: in hero form, players can attack and disrupt the villain’s plans, while in alter ego form, they can recover damage and use special abilities. Players can further customize their playstyle by choosing one of four aspects – Justice, Leadership, Aggression, or Protection. Each aspect offers different strategies and cards that complement the hero’s abilities.
Every card has a cost, which players pay by discarding other cards from their hand. This creates meaningful decisions, as players must carefully choose which cards to keep and which to use as resources. After the players take their turns, the villain acts by attacking or advancing their scheme. The villain also has its own deck, introducing additional challenges such as minions, treachery cards, and side schemes.
