Minos: Dawn of the Bronze Age is a strategic civilization game set in the time of early Minoan culture on Crete—one of the first European civilizations. Players take on the roles of clan leaders striving for dominance and the title of Minos, the supreme ruler of the island.
The game takes place in the Bronze Age, where players build cities, develop trade routes, defend against attacks, and collaborate with their clan advisors. The historical theme is rich and supported by an art style that reflects Minoan culture—from palaces to maritime trade.
Minos is a complex Euro-style game that combines several mechanics:
- Dice drafting: Players select dice and place them on action spaces. Lower values allow for stronger actions, while higher values enable advancement on development tracks.
- Engine building: Throughout the game, you develop your board with decrees that allow for combinations and bonuses.
- Tableau management: By arranging cards in your palace, you build your scoring system.
- Area control: You use warriors to claim regions and fight off invaders (e.g., the Sea Peoples).
- Set collection & resource management: You gather goods, construct buildings, and upgrade your city.
The game is played over four rounds, each consisting of phases for dice placement, action resolution, income collection, and scoring. Multiple paths to victory encourage diverse strategies.
The game is challenging but rewarding for those who enjoy deep, strategic thinking. 🌀🏺
