Monumental – Standard Edition is an ambitious civilization board game that combines deck-building, resource management, map exploration, and empire building. Players take control of one of several historical civilizations (such as the Egyptians, Japanese, or Danes) and strive to create a powerful society that will stand the test of time.
Each player guides their civilization through different eras, from the Classical Age to the Modern Age. Throughout the game, you build your city, advance scientific knowledge, develop culture, conquer territories, and construct world wonders. All of this takes place on a modular map that changes from game to game, greatly enhancing replayability.
Players begin with a basic deck of cards and gradually improve it with stronger buildings, scientific breakthroughs, and cultural developments. On each turn, you activate one row and one column, triggering the effects of the cards in your city. The three primary resources, Production, Science, and Military, must be spent immediately when gained. Military strength allows you to conquer territories on the map, earning victory points and additional bonuses. Culture and Wonders are represented by special cards that provide unique abilities and extra points. Gold serves as a universal resource that can be saved and used in future turns.
The game lasts for several rounds until the card market is depleted. The winner is the player with the most victory points, earned through upgrades, conquered territories, constructed wonders, and developed cards.
