Motor City is a strategic roll‑and‑write board game that takes players into the golden age of Detroit’s automotive industry. The game is designed by the acclaimed team of Ben Pinchback, Matt Riddle, and Adam Hill.
You take on the role of a manager of a car manufacturing plant. Your goal is to develop, test, produce, and sell automobiles while also focusing on research, engineering, and earning certifications. All of this unfolds in a setting that mirrors the dynamics of Detroit’s automotive boom—a city synonymous with American car manufacturing.
Motor City is a complex roll‑and‑write game played over eight rounds.
Each player uses two sheets: the Blueprint Board and the Scoresheet. The gameplay is divided into three phases:
Planning Phase
The player rolls multicolored dice and places them onto the planning board.
Industry Phase
Players select dice and perform actions such as:
- Research (unlocking bonuses)
- Upgrades (strengthening actions)
- Actions on the blueprint board and player sheet (e.g., testing, production, sales, engineering)
Audit Phase
A special red die restricts one of the available actions in the next round.
The game features nine interconnected areas, and progress in one often triggers a chain of bonuses in others—a hallmark combo‑chaining system that makes Motor City so engaging.
If you enjoy deep strategy, automotive themes, and dynamic action chaining, Motor City is an excellent addition to your collection. 🏁
