Mountain Goats: Legacy is a charming family strategy game about mountain goats competing to reach the highest peaks. The game is based on the popular Mountain Goats, but adds a campaign-style, “legacy” experience in which the story evolves over multiple sessions, new abilities are unlocked, fresh challenges emerge, and even the mountain itself changes.
As for the gameplay, players roll dice on their turn and combine the results into different totals, which they use to move their goats up the mountains. The goal is to reach the summits and score points, while being careful not to be pushed out of advantageous positions by opponents. A key new feature is the goat symbols on the dice, which allow players to activate unlocked abilities. These abilities change between scenarios and introduce new tactical options. Throughout the campaign, players discover additional rules, hazards, and systems, including the “Courage” mechanic, which helps reduce the impact of luck and provides greater control over dice results. The legacy aspect of the game is fully resettable, meaning there is no need to destroy or permanently alter any components.
