Mycelia: Deluxe Edition is a tactical and visually enchanting board game that takes players into the microscopic world of fungi, where they compete for space and resources to build their own mushroom kingdom.
The game is based on the life cycle of fungi: from mushroom growth and spore spreading to decomposition, which triggers special actions. This cycle is represented in the game as a metaphor for creation, expansion, death, and rebirth. The illustrations are botanically accurate and include more than 69 species of mushrooms found in nature.
Each player has two actions per turn, chosen from six possible options. These include:
- Growing mushrooms for points
- Spreading spores to expand your network
- Decomposition to trigger special effects
- Stealing spores and blocking opponents
Players can develop their own playstyle—either aggressively by disrupting others or defensively by protecting their territory.
A particularly interesting element is the dynamic game board, composed of triangular tiles that represent different environments and nutrients. Players add them over the course of the game, meaning the board constantly changes and adapts to evolving strategies.
