Pandemic: Reign of Cthulhu is a standalone game in the Pandemic series, but instead of the classic fight against global diseases, it places players in the roles of investigators battling ancient evil forces from the world of H. P. Lovecraft. Players travel through iconic towns (Arkham, Dunwich, Innsmouth, Kingsport) and attempt to close portals through which cultists and otherworldly monsters enter our world. The main objective is to prevent the awakening of Cthulhu and the other “Old Ones,” who threaten to plunge humanity into madness and destruction.
The game is cooperative — all players work together as a team. Each player assumes the role of an investigator with unique abilities. Together, you must close four portals before the world becomes overrun by cultists and monsters (Shoggoths). In addition to that, you must contend with the special powers of the twelve “Old Ones,” each of whom brings new challenges and dangers into the game. A notable feature of the game is the madness mechanic — players can lose their sanity, which affects their abilities and their chances of winning.
