Raptor is a tense, asymmetrical board game for two players, designed by the acclaimed duo Bruno Cathala and Bruno Faidutti. The game takes you to a remote Pacific island, where a mother velociraptor struggles to protect her young from a team of scientists determined to capture them for research.
In Raptor, one player takes on the role of the protective mother raptor, while the other controls a team of scientists. The mother raptor’s goal is to help at least three of her babies escape into the safety of the jungle or eliminate all the scientists from the board. The scientists, on the other hand, win if they manage to capture three baby raptors or put the mother to sleep using five tranquilizer darts.
Each player has a set of nine unique cards numbered from 1 to 9. In every round, both players choose one card and reveal it simultaneously. The player with the lower number performs the special action on the card, while the other gains a number of action points equal to the difference between the two cards, which can be spent on movement, attacks, or other actions. The mother raptor can move quickly, frighten or attack scientists, awaken sleeping babies, and extinguish fires. The scientists can set fire barriers, use tranquilizer darts, call reinforcements, and move around in jeeps.
The playing area is made up of ten tiles that can be arranged in different ways, allowing for varied setups and increasing the game’s replayability.
