Recall is a deep strategy game in which players lead one of 14 unique tribes and embark on a journey to rebuild civilization after the collapse of the world. The game takes place across a diverse landscape where tribes explore territories, uncover traces of ancient cultures, and learn from abandoned technologies and artifacts. This archaeological–civilizational thread is crucial: exploration sites reveal knowledge, abilities, and devices of ancient tribes that help players progress.
The game is built on an original combination of keycard management, engine building, and exploration.
Each round, a player chooses between:
- using a keycard, which activates both the card’s ability and the chosen action space,
- or performing the “Recall” action, which generates resources and returns previously used keycards to the player’s hand.
This duality forms the core of the game’s strategic decision‑making.
Players explore new areas, move followers, settle regions, and uncover archaeological sites where they find relics and ancient abilities. These sites are also an important source of points.
With the resources they gather, tribes can:
- build workshops,
- unlock vaults,
- construct monuments,
- upgrade their action boards,
- collect ability stones and relics that strengthen their engine.
Three times during the game, players must choose between two different paths — the choice grants an immediate bonus and influences the final scoring. These decisions strongly shape long‑term strategy. At the end of the game, players may archive their tribe online; it can then appear in other players’ games as an ancient tribe waiting to be rediscovered — a subtle legacy element.
