Scoville: 2nd Edition is a strategic board game for 1–6 players in which you take on the role of chili farmers at the annual festival in the town of Scoville. Your goal is to grow the hottest pepper hybrids, fulfill market orders, and cook spicy recipes to earn the most points and become the festival champion.
In Scoville, everything revolves around peppers — from planting and crossbreeding to harvesting and cooking. Players cultivate various types of chilies, including rare hybrids such as white, black, and translucent “ghost” peppers. You'll participate in auctions, plant chilies in a shared field, crossbreed them to create new varieties, and use them to prepare dishes or sell them at the market.
The game is played over several rounds, each consisting of four phases:
- Auction: Players secretly bid money to determine turn order and receive auction cards containing chilies.
- Planting: In the order established by the auction, players plant chilies in the shared field next to existing plants.
- Harvesting: In reverse turn order, players move their farmers up to three steps across the field and collect peppers created through crossbreeding adjacent plants (based on a special breeding chart).
- Fulfillment: Players use harvested chilies to complete market orders, cook recipes for points, or sell peppers for money.
The game is divided into a morning and afternoon segment, and it ends when certain market or recipe card stacks are depleted. The player with the most points wins.
