"Sheriff of Nottingham: 2nd Edition" is a bluffing and negotiation board game set in the medieval city of Nottingham. Players take on the roles of merchants trying to smuggle goods into the marketplace, while one player acts as the Sheriff, responsible for preventing smuggling. The goal of the merchants is to earn as much money as possible through legal and illegal goods, while the Sheriff tries to catch those who break the rules.
Each player receives a merchant stand, a goods bag, and 50 gold coins. The goods cards are shuffled, each player is dealt six cards, and one player takes on the role of the Sheriff.
Game Phases:
Market: Merchants may exchange a certain number of cards from their hand.
Bag Preparation: Merchants choose up to five goods cards and place them into their bags.
Declaration: Each merchant tells the Sheriff which type of goods (apples, cheese, bread, or chickens) and how many items they are carrying. The quantity must be correct, but the type of goods may be truthful or a lie.
Inspection: The Sheriff decides whether to inspect the merchants’ bags. Merchants may offer bribes or negotiate to avoid inspection. If the Sheriff finds undeclared or illegal goods, the merchant pays a penalty; if the declaration is correct, the Sheriff must compensate the merchant.
End of the Game:
The game ends after a set number of rounds, depending on the number of players. The winner is the player with the highest number of points, earned from legal goods, smuggled goods, and gold coins.
If you enjoy games where bluffing, negotiation, and social interaction take center stage, "Sheriff of Nottingham: 2nd Edition" is an excellent choice for your next game night. 🏹
