SHŌBU is an abstract strategy game for two players that, with its aesthetics, evokes ancient games like Go, Chess, or Checkers.

SHŌBU is played on four wooden boards (two light and two dark), arranged so that each player has one light and one dark board in front of them. Players use stones (white or black), starting with four on each board.

Each player performs two moves on their turn:

• Passive move – on one of their own boards, they move a stone one or two spaces in any direction, without pushing other stones.
• Aggressive move – on a board of the opposite color (either on their own or the opponent’s side), they repeat the same move, but this time they may push the opponent’s stones.

The goal of the game is to push all of the opponent’s stones off one of the four boards. The game ends immediately when a player achieves this.
