Sky Team is an exceptionally tense and thematically rich cooperative board game for two players that places you in the cockpit of a passenger airplane—one takes on the role of the pilot, the other the co-pilot. Together, you must safely land at various airports around the world, where precise coordination, strategic thinking, and limited communication are key.
The game simulates landing an aircraft under realistic conditions—from controlling altitude, speed, brakes, flaps, and landing gear, to communicating with air traffic control. Each mission represents a different airport with unique challenges such as bad weather, runway traffic, or technical failures. Players step into the roles of professionals who must handle stressful situations and make quick yet thoughtful decisions.
The pilot and co-pilot work together to operate the aircraft. The game board represents the airplane’s control panel with various systems. Each player rolls dice behind a screen and then assigns them to the control panel without communicating.
The dice are used to manage:
- the aircraft’s tilt (to prevent stalling),
- speed and brakes (to avoid overshooting the runway),
- altitude and flaps (for a stable landing),
- radio communication (to clear the runway).
After an initial discussion between players, communication is no longer allowed, increasing tension and requiring intuition. The game includes 20 different scenarios with increasing difficulty and additional mechanics (e.g., fuel, extra aircraft, weather conditions).
If you’re looking for a game that combines a realistic simulation feel, cooperative tension, and thematic immersion, Sky Team is an excellent choice for two players seeking both challenge and teamwork. ✈️
