In Spectacular, players take on the role of zoo managers whose goal is to preserve endangered species. Each player builds their own park with various habitats, provides food for the animals, and encourages breeding. The game is set on a planet where biodiversity is key to success, making species diversity an important factor in scoring.
Tiles represent animals and habitats, while dice represent food. The color of a die must match the color of the habitat. All players play simultaneously, which speeds up the game and increases interaction. Connecting tiles of the same habitat enables scoring, especially when they include “family” tiles with low dice values. Observation towers placed between three dice provide additional points. A greater variety of species in the park means more points. Each player has a unique layout, increasing replayability. After a few games, mission tiles can be added to increase the difficulty and reward more complex strategies.
