Successors (Fourth Edition) is a strategic board game for 2 to 5 players, set in the turbulent period following the death of Alexander the Great. Players take on the roles of his generals—the Diadochi—who struggle for control over his vast empire.
After Alexander’s death in 323 BCE, no clear successor was named. The game vividly portrays the historical conflicts and political intrigue of the era—from battles for territories and control of the royal family to attempts to bury Alexander’s body in Pella, which would grant a player greater legitimacy.
The game is driven by special cards that enable unit movement, battles, sieges, and political maneuvers.
Two paths to victory:
- Victory Points (VP): Earned by controlling provinces, fleets, and strategic locations.
- Legitimacy: Gained by controlling members of the royal family and by burying Alexander in Pella—an action that grants significant political authority.
Battles are tactical and impactful—losing a general can greatly weaken a player's power. The game encourages alliances, manipulation, and betrayal, reflecting the instability of the political landscape during this historical period.
If you’re looking for a deep strategy game with strong historical themes and rich mechanics, Successors (Fourth Edition) is an excellent choice. ⚔️🏺
