Targi is an elegant and strategic board game for two players that places them in the roles of leaders of Tuareg tribes in the deserts of North Africa. The players compete for influence, resources, and tribal cards, which help them build their economic and cultural strength.
In Targi, you find yourself in the heart of a desert world, where, as the leader of a Tuareg tribe, you trade goods such as dates, salt, pepper, and gold while striving to expand your tribe. The theme is infused with a sense of trade, survival, and tribal diplomacy, creating a rich atmosphere despite its minimalist design.
The playing area consists of border cards, which remain fixed, and a central 3×3 grid of cards that changes throughout the game. Players take turns placing their three Targi figures on the border cards, while respecting certain restrictions (for example, you cannot place a figure on a card occupied by the robber). At the intersections of rows and columns where Targi figures are placed, players position Tribal markers on central cards—these represent additional actions. Players collect goods, play tribal cards (which grant points and bonuses), and build patterns for extra scoring. The robber moves around the border, limiting placement options and triggering raids that require players to pay penalties.
The game ends when a player plays their 12th tribal card or when the robber reaches the fourth raid card. The player with the most points wins.
If you’re looking for a two-player strategy game with an original mechanic, rich theme, and engaging dynamics, Targi is an excellent addition to your collection. 🐪
