The Dwarves: Big Box is a cooperative fantasy board game based on the novels by Markus Heitz. Players take on the roles of brave dwarves and work together to battle dark forces such as orcs, trolls, and the Älfar in order to save the land of Girdlegard from destruction.
The game is deeply rooted in a rich fantasy world filled with mythical creatures, magic, and epic quests. Players control heroes from the book series, such as Balyndis Ironfinger or Gandogar Silverbeard, embarking on adventures that involve combat, diplomacy, and exploration. Each hero has unique abilities and traits that influence the course of the game.
Designed for 2–6 players, the game emphasizes teamwork as everyone strives to stop the spread of evil. Dice are rolled to test abilities such as combat, speed, and crafting. When too many enemies accumulate in a region, it becomes “devastated,” making movement more difficult and increasing the level of danger. Each turn triggers a new threat or task drawn from scenario cards. The dwarven world is divided into six books (scenarios), which can be played individually or as part of a campaign.
A key highlight of the Big Box edition is that it includes all previously released expansions: Saga Expansion, New Heroes, Combined Might, Triumph of the Dwarves, and Älfar Expansion. This results in a massive amount of content and high replayability.
