The Great City of Rome is a strategic board game that transports players to the era of Ancient Rome, where they take on the role of architects and city planners. The goal is to build the most magnificent version of the Eternal City and earn the admiration of the Emperor.
The game is set during the height of the Roman Empire. As an architect, you must balance the construction of residential districts, temples, aqueducts, and other important structures. At the same time, there is a constant race for the Emperor’s favor, since only those who invest wisely and gain influence will achieve lasting glory. The theme captures the spirit of a grand civilization, where every decision shapes the final appearance of your city.
The game lasts for 14 rounds, during which players select building cards and add them to their hands. The order in which cards are chosen depends on a player's position on the action track. Being closer to the Emperor allows for earlier card selection, but provides fewer resources (bricks and gears). Each round, you may construct one building by spending bricks and activate production by spending gears, gaining additional benefits in return. Your city is built within a 4×4 grid of cards, requiring careful planning to maximize your score. At the end of the game, points are awarded for residential buildings, temples, aqueducts, coins, and influence cards.
If you're drawn to a combination of historical theme and thoughtful strategic planning, The Great City of Rome is an excellent choice for your gaming table! 🏛️
