The One Ring – Hands of the White Wizard is an expansion for the tabletop RPG The One Ring that takes players deeper into Middle‑earth and places them at the heart of one of its most compelling stories—the rise and fall of Saruman the White.
The events are set between the year 2965 of the Third Age and the beginning of the War of the Ring, just before Saruman’s betrayal.
Players take on the roles of adventurers who:
- serve Saruman or act as his observers
- investigate events surrounding Isengard
- take part in missions that gradually reveal his transformation
A key feature of this expansion is that Saruman is not immediately a villain—he is portrayed as a wise, charismatic, and influential wizard whose pride and ambition slowly lead him into darkness.
The expansion uses the core system of The One Ring but enhances it with a stronger narrative structure. It includes six connected adventures that can be played individually or as a full campaign. Player decisions can influence Saruman’s path—either accelerating his fall or attempting to prevent it. The Shadow mechanic becomes even more important, tracking the moral compromises of both the characters and Saruman himself. The focus is less on introducing new rules and more on using existing mechanics to create a tense and dramatic story.
Contents include:
- a collection of six adventures
- the option to play them as a campaign or standalone stories
- a detailed description of Isengard, Saruman, and his allies
- new characters, adversaries, and mysteries
- a strong focus on interaction with a well-known Tolkien character
Hands of the White Wizard is a deep and thematically rich expansion that allows players to stand beside Saruman and directly influence one of the most tragic stories in Middle‑earth.
