Thebai takes you into the dark times of the late Bronze Age in the city of Thebes. After the shameful departure of the blind king Oedipus, power is divided between his two sons, Polynices and Eteocles, which sparks a bloody war. While epic battles rage at the city gates, noble families within the city plot to seize control. Your task is to restore the famous citadel of Cadmea, develop your estates, pray to the gods, and defend the seven city gates from invaders.

The game is designed for 1–4 players and lasts approximately 90–150 minutes. It unfolds over 10 rounds, each divided into two phases: Action Phase and Fate Phase.

In the Action Phase, players use the citizen dice and move their Archon across Cadmea.
In the Fate Phase, special events are triggered along with additional scoring opportunities.
Mechanics include Contracts, End Game Bonuses, Events, Grid Movement, and Matching, meaning a combination of strategic movement, task completion, and point collection for achievements.

The game is rooted in Greek mythology and epic conflicts, creating a sense of tension and historical grandeur. Players must balance restoring Cadmea, defending the gates, and gaining influence. Every decision is woven into a story of war, gods, and politics, making you feel like a true part of the ancient Theban drama.
