Through the Desert is a classic strategy board game designed by the renowned game designer Reiner Knizia.
The game takes us into an arid landscape where players lead nomadic caravans across the desert. The goal is to build routes to valuable oases and water sources while securing control over territory. Pastel‑colored camel pieces and the minimalist aesthetic create a sense of calm, but beneath the surface lies tense strategic competition.
Each player has five caravan leaders, each riding a camel of a different color. On their turn, the player places two camels, which must continue an existing route of the same color.
Scoring
Players earn points by:
- Reaching oases (5 points),
- Collecting water sources (1–3 points),
- Enclosing areas (points for enclosed empty spaces),
- Having the longest caravan of each color at the end of the game.
You may not connect two routes of the same color belonging to different players, which requires precise planning.
Players can choose different strategic approaches — expanding routes, controlling oases, or enclosing areas.
