Trailblazers is a dynamic and visually striking board game that takes players on an outdoor adventure, where they build networks of hiking, biking, and kayaking trails. It is the work of designer Ryan Courtney, known for his complex yet approachable puzzle-style games with deep strategic layers.
In Trailblazers, players become nature explorers striving to create the most efficient and elegant loops of trails that return back to camp. Each card represents a segment of a trail—forest paths, rivers, or bike routes—and players must connect them cleverly to form meaningful, point‑rich loops. The game radiates a sense of freedom, exploration, and outdoor adventure.
All players simultaneously choose trail cards from their hands and then pass their remaining cards along, creating tension and strategic decision-making. Cards can overlap, allowing players to construct intricate networks of paths. It’s essential that the trails lead back to camp—only such loops score points. The game includes solo modes and a competitive mode for up to eight players.
The box also includes two expansions: the Animals expansion and the Adventurers expansion, both of which add an extra layer of strategic depth and additional goals.
