Unreliable Wizard is a light, wonderfully charming solo adventure game with a fantasy theme, in which you, as a wizard apprentice, set out on a dangerous journey to defeat the Demon Lord and rescue the princess. The game is designed as a compact card‑based experience that combines simplicity, tension, and a touch of humorous “clumsiness” in the protagonist.

In the game, you are a wizard apprentice sent on a mission by the king: to cross diverse landscapes, confront the demon’s minions, and gather power, knowledge, and companions so that you can ultimately defeat the Demon Lord and save the princess.
The theme is crafted as a nostalgic RPG‑style adventure, often presented in a retro 8‑bit aesthetic.

The game is a purely solo experience and is based on a small set of approximately 32 cards.
Your wizard moves along a path where each movement across certain terrain types requires you to spend life points. Some terrain even heals you, while others are painful and punish you. Battles occur only at specially marked locations – there you encounter various monsters with known defense values.
Spells come in three colors — red, green, and blue — and you create them by combining symbols (“glyphs”) on the cards that fit together like puzzle pieces.
To cast the correct spell, you need the proper top glyph in the chosen color. Along the way, you can gain companions (such as a paladin or a monk) who grant you additional bonuses, attacks, or special abilities.
At the top of the map awaits Demon Lord Terra, who regenerates, so you must carefully optimize your deck of spells and companions before the final confrontation.
