VAGRANTSONG is a cooperative board game for 2–4 players set aboard the mysterious Ghost Train — a haunted locomotive called the Silver Ferryman. Players take on the roles of vagrants who find themselves trapped on this eerie train and must confront lost souls known as Haints in order to uncover the train’s secrets and rescue both the spirits and themselves.
The game is deeply rooted in American folklore and ghost‑story traditions. Instead of fighting ghosts in a traditional sense, players work to restore their humanity — essentially “healing” and freeing them. Each soul has its own story revealed throughout the game, making them feel less like enemies and more like tragic figures in need of help.
VAGRANTSONG is a boss‑battler style game, where each scenario features a single major opponent — the Haint. The game unfolds in rounds: each player takes a turn, followed by the Haint acting between every player turn, meaning the spirit moves very frequently, keeping tension high.
Players can:
- Move around the train,
- Rummage (draw a token from a bag to gain an item),
- Investigate points of interest,
- Use special abilities unique to their characters.
The game uses a coin‑based action system, where players place coins on actions to perform them, enabling thoughtful and strategic decision‑making. Most actions require rolling dice, which can lead to unpredictable outcomes. Rolling a six grants an extra action, adding a touch of luck.
The campaign offers over 30 hours of mystery, emotional storytelling, and eerie atmosphere. 🕯️
