Welcome Back to the Dungeon is a fast-paced fantasy board game in which adventurers gather at the entrance of a dangerous dungeon filled with monsters and hidden threats. Players are not only competing against the dangers lurking underground but also against one another, trying to determine who has enough courage to enter the dungeon and who is taking too great a risk. Designed by Antoine Bauza and Masato Uesugi, it is a standalone sequel to Welcome to the Dungeon.
The gameplay revolves around push-your-luck decisions, bluffing, and risk assessment. During the game, players take turns drawing monster cards and deciding whether to secretly add the monster to the dungeon or remove a piece of equipment from the adventurer that would otherwise help them survive the expedition. As a result, the dungeon gradually becomes more dangerous while the hero becomes less prepared for the challenges ahead.
At any point, a player who no longer wishes to take risks may drop out of the round. Once only one player remains, that player must send the chosen hero into the dungeon and reveal all the monsters that have been placed there. If the hero survives the encounters, the player earns a success; if the hero falls, they move closer to elimination. Success depends on accurately judging how much danger is hidden within the dungeon and deciding whether it is better to take the risk yourself or force an opponent to face what may be certain doom.
A notable feature of the game is its variety of heroes, including the Necromancer, Ninja, Princess, and Troubadour, each equipped with unique gear and different ways to overcome monsters. In addition, the game includes special monsters that increase variety and replayability.
Welcome Back to the Dungeon is a tense game of bluffing and risk-taking where courage, clever decision-making, and a little luck determine who emerges from the dungeon as a true hero. 🏰
