Wolfpack is a tactical, historically grounded board game that depicts the clashes between German submarine wolfpacks and Allied merchant convoys in the North Atlantic between 1941 and 1943. It is a cooperative or solo experience for 1–4 players, in which players take on the role of U-boat commanders.
The historical atmosphere is at the forefront: the North Atlantic, darkness, fog, pursuit and escape – all of this highlights the tension of the Battle of the Atlantic.
The game focuses on:
- dangerous convoy routes carrying vital resources between the USA and Great Britain,
- stealth attacks by German submarines,
- advanced Allied anti-submarine tactics,
- an intense “cat-and-mouse” feeling as players hunt, approach, fire, and then flee from destroyers.
Allied ships and escorts operate through an AI system that adds a sense of unpredictability and realism.
Each player controls a Type VII or Type IX U-boat using a large and detailed board on which they track: hull integrity, flooding, equipment damage, crew injuries, torpedoes, reloading, depth, and heading.
Players first maneuver in the outer area of the map to avoid the escort screen and find the best approach direction. Once they enter the inner area, they:
- calculate the TDC (torpedo data computer) for each torpedo,
- choose angle, speed, and firing time,
- decide whether to risk additional shots or retreat.
Allied ships move, detect, attack, and search the area according to specific rules and red-marked zones. The game includes a campaign system where patrols are connected, the crew gains experience, and damage or successes affect future missions.
